Please God, don’t let Boris win

By Chris Lo • May 1st, 2008 • Category: News

London goes to the polls today to decide who will be our new Mayor, and the terrifying prospect of Boris Johnson actually winning seems closer than ever.

According to YouGov’s final survey for the campaign, Boris is ahead of Ken Livingstone by six per cent, after taking second preferences into account. However accurate the survey is, it’s undeniable that the race is one of the most fiercely contested elections in a long while. Well, “fiercely contested” only by comparison to previous mayoral elections, which nobody seemed to notice, let alone vote on.

The Lib Dem candidate seems to have been completely overshadowed by Boris and Ken’s titanic struggle. In fact, at the time of writing, Brian Paddick was last seen in his bedroom, drinking red wine and weeping into his pillows.

The result of this election is still clearly too close to call, which means that every single vote is important. Yes, you there on the sofa! Even yours!

Also, remember – if all the sensible people vote, we won’t have to put up with racist, hateful BNP members on the London Assembly. And that would be nice.

Polling stations are open until 10pm tonight. Find out where your nearest station is here.

  1. If Boris wins I’m leaving London*.
Maybe if I’d posted this yesterday people would have gone out in DROVES to vote Ken, yes.

*I reserve the right to not leave actually leave London and just be a bit pissed off.

  2. I will cry – both if boris wins and if George Terry leaves London and/or gets pissed off. We shall know soon enough …
