Emma Watson: London’s new It Girl

Catherine Skrbic on how Hermione Granger became a sophisticated style icon

Emma Watson’s claim to be a style icon has risen dramatically in the last couple of months.

Last year she was wearing stunning Chanel gowns, this year she’s the face of Burberry. She wowed Harry Potter fans and fashionistas when she turned up to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince premiere dressed in a full length vintage Ossie Clark dress.

It might have been a wash out, but Watson stole the show by making what appeared to be a grown-up choice of outfit look glowing and youthful.

When Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone hit cinemas in 2001 it was hard to believe that one day Watson would become a fashion icon. But now that Alexa Chung has relocated to America, Watson could be London’s new It Girl.

Every garment chosen by Emma resembles who she is, and elegance and sophistication are seen in every outfit. This month she was on the cover of ELLE. She’s fronting the latest Burberry campaign, and has tempted fashion lovers to work the smoky eyed look again.

Watson’s age-appropriate dressing flatters her, but there’s always something rebellious in how she wears her clothes, be it the length of, or the lack of a back on, her dress. She always stands out from the other stars on the red carpet.

Watson will continue to wow while promoting the latest Harry Potter film, and for years to come. She exudes elegance in anything and everything she chooses to wear, and girls around the world will imitate her, her style, her hair and her make-up.

Emma Watson is a London style icon waiting to happen.

Catherine Skrbic is a neat freak. Everything has to be in order for her to go at bed at night. Some people call it OCD. She has a shopping addiction and a penchant for vintage stores. She constantly needs a new pair of shoes. Favourite place in London: Tower Bridge, even though she's scared it'll open while she's walking on it.
