Recycled couture

Oxfam opened its first boutique charity shop in Westbourne Grove on Saturday.

The shop will sell recycled second hand clothes; with redesigned items made from donated clothing. There are also stores to be opened in Chelsea and Chiswick this summer.

Former Topshop director Jane Shepherdson oversaw the rebranding of the iconic charity shop. She told the BBC “Oxfam has always been a place where stylish people hunt for interesting items to create their look, the boutiques are set to make that even easier.”

A team of young designers will use donated clothing to make items for sale at the boutique. One of the items for sale on Ebay is a duvet cover made from old evening gowns. Rather thrifty in normal circumstances, but we are sure the difference is made up with the boutique price tag.

It is a good job Oxfam are sticking to trendy areas of the capital. From the last look at the Londoners local charity shop, we doubt anything could be salvaged from a baby blue M&S polyester skirt and shirt combo.

In fact Londoners have just had a flashback of the ‘Derelict’ fashion line in Zoolander…
