DJ and producer Anil Chawla is hot in the dance music press. Amid recording his debut album, DJ-ing internationally and being on an internet radio show for Ministry of Sound, he excusively reveals the new home of club night Together to Maisie McCabe.

London bars:

“There’s so much of everything in London, especially nightlife. Kind of depends on location I guess, but I’m always fond of a cheap pint! Brick Lane is always cool with 93 Feet East, Vibe Bar, Big Chill.

“I love starting off in The Strongrooms on Curtain Road. Its wicked little terrace outside is perfect in the summer. After a few drinks it’s time to find somewhere for a bit of dancing.

Clubnights:

“I sometimes play at a night called BeatFREAK at Fluid in Farringdon. It’s a smaller venue and so there’s more of an intimate vibe. Turnmills was always one of my favourite clubs for big nights out. It was so original and had such a family-run feel. Even when I lived in Southampton, I got the train up to Turnmills most weekends.

“After I moved up to London I began to play regularly at The Gallery [Turnmills’ Friday night house-fest] and was a resident at Together [monthly night that combines the best of indie and electro]. Both nights are going to live on in new venues.

“The Gallery is moving to Ministry of Sound. I’m looking forward to seeing all the regulars there on 25 April. I think it’s going to be a good partnership. I love the main room at Ministry; the sound is incredible.

“I’m excited to announce that Together is going to be at Scala from the 28 June. It’s a great venue and the perfect choice for Together.

“We’ve got a pretty special line-up for June with Dusty Kid, Justin Robertson, Moi and loads more. It also happens to nicely coincide with my birthday!

Recording the album:

“There’s no lazy Sunday afternoons for me at the moment. I spend them in the studio with Dale Anderson. The album should be out in September. We’ve just done a song with Justin Robertson; he’s got such a wicked voice.

“I’m looking forward to getting my Sunday afternoons back. I intend to spend them on the couch, watching DVDs and tapping up the local Chinese for a delivery!”
